The NCSR platform enables a single electronic record for eligible people participating in bowel and cervical screening.

It digitally links healthcare providers and laboratories with the NCSR, providing real-time access to participant screening information to inform appropriate clinical management.

This information is for healthcare providers who provide cervical or bowel screening services for program participants, including:

  • general practitioners (GPs)
  • nurses trained in cervical or bowel screening
  • specialists such as colposcopists, gynaecologists and gastroenterologists
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare practitioners.

You can use the NCSR to:

  • order your patient a replacement National Bowel Cancer Screening Program test kit
  • bulk order bowel kits for your practice to issue directly to patients during an appointment via the alternative access to kits model
  • check patient screening information and program status
  • receive reminders for patients overdue for screening or follow-up
  • check and update patient details
  • manage your patient’s participation in the bowel and cervical screening programs
  • view and submit screening information about your patient, such as colonoscopy or colposcopy information
  • view patient program correspondence for bowel and cervical screening programs
  • nominate other people to assist your patient, including another doctor or a personal representative.

HPV positivity rates – benchmarking reports for pathology labs

One of the key elements of quality assessment for the National Cervical Screening Program is for pathology laboratories to routinely assess their HPV detection rate ('positivity rate'). Laboratories are expected to compare the HPV detection rate against national benchmarks.
